A publishing client has asked you to create several versions of documents to promote Alice In Wonderland, using supplied extracts of text and images. As well as preparing the required items you will draft an invoice detailing your work and charges.
2A Presenting text in different formats P3 You will be provided with an extract of text which has six errors. Correct these and then it should be set out in three ways: for printing as A5 landscape pages, viewing as A4 landscape presentation slides and a newspaper page three column type format as a single A4 portrait sheet
2B Enhancing presentation P4 Add page numbers and headings then images and graphics to the A5 version in 2A as instructed in the brief provided.
2C Creating a template M1 Remove the text from the revision in 2B but retain the page number settings, headings and graphics (but not images). Save the blank document as a template. Add a different extract of text (using design text) to demonstrate your template functions effectively
2D Advanced formatting and techniques M2 Using the document created for 2B, add shadow effects to the images, reduce the font size and adjust the wrapping so that text follows the outline more closely. Replace the text on the first page with an appropriate single graphic or image which includes the title text.
2E Poster and invoice D1 Create an A4 advertisement poster for the book to appeal to young children featuring a short extract from the text, one or more illustrations and the title in a style to suit that audience. Prepare an invoice for your work as [Your name] Document Services (and your made-up address and contact information) which briefly describes for the client the applications and techniques used in all seven document tasks now completed.
2F Your fees and final submission document D2
Add in a column your charges for each task on the invoice. These are calculated as £2 per KB of file size. Show VAT at 20% as a subtotal and the overall total amount due.
Create a graph to show the composition of the total charge. Publish the poster, your invoice and the chart as PDF documents.
Brief for
Alice In Wonderland task 2B
Use the A5 landscape document created in Task 2A.
A first page should be added, featuring only the title Alice In Wonderland in a font at least size 72. The title should not extend over the page and the word Wonderland must not be split.
A font size should be chosen for the main text so that, after the amendments below, it occupies 4 pages, making the whole document 5 pages.
The four images, one of which must be included in Task 2B, are provided on-line.
alice-white rabbit
alice-alice1
alice-alice2
alice-caterpillar
Each page (other than the first) should feature at least one image.
The graphics which must be included in Task 2B are the four maths symbols. These can be created with shapes or images obtained from other sources. They need to be placed behind text or other images and with colours or shades that allow the text to be reasonably clear.
+ - x ÷
The title Alice In Wonderland should be featured in a header on all pages except the first.
Your name and a page number should be featured in a footer on all pages except the first. The page number should be placed near the bottom right of the page and start with 1.
